Yes, you can target women or men exclusively.
Google’s targeting won’t be perfect in this respect. It attaches its cookie to your browser and will attempt to work out if you’re a man or a woman based on whether you’re signed in, or if you look at websites that have been typically associated with a specific gender.
If the same browser is used by multiple members of the same family, or if you clear the cookies, go incognito or you don’t use that browser very often, then Google will either guess, or will mark you as unknown.
As such, there are actually three options available for targeting – male, female and unknown.
For any of these three options, you can include or exclude as a whole group or you can increase or decrease how much you are willing to pay via a bid adjustment.
If you have a good idea of your demographic targeting, it might be worthwhile including, excluding or adjusting bids based on age at the same time as gender.
