For a while I have been wanting a report that shows me how my ecommerce clients rank against their competitors in Google Shopping campaigns, on a per product basis.

Unfortunately product data and much of the competitive data can’t be automatically pulled into Google Data Studio from Google Ads (I have no idea why). 🤔

So today I had a little time up my sleeve and I whipped up this beauty using data manually imported from Google Ads, plus a bit of data analyst magic.

The report tells you exactly which Product Titles were relatively more or less competitive in the Google Shopping marketplace.

Basically the column titled Relative Attractiveness against Competitors will be a dark colour if you’re doing well, and a light colour if you are not doing so well. If you rank them by revenue, you’ll want to work on your least competitive, high revenue products. These are your low-hanging fruit.

I really like this report, because it lets you immediately see which products you need to work on. Once you have many SKUs in your shop it can become overwhelming to work out where to start with regards to improving text, images, titles, offers, sales and the like.

The key metric here is the one I have named Relative Attractiveness Against Competitors.

Low numbers indicate your competitors offerings were more attractive to the user, whereas high numbers mean that yours came up trumps. The metric is a combination of Click Share and Search Impression Share.

Here at 1834 Hotels we centralise the marketing for many different hotels. It can be an enormous undertaking to monitor and track the performance of each one, especially when they are all on separate webpages.
